Living the Dream, Liberal Style

The Decay of The Bronx

Energy

Energy Snooze Button
Jimmy Carter "solved" the energy crisis of his day by donning a wooly sweater, seating himself in front of a cozy fireplace, and lecturing the American people on energy savings. Obama's proposals are not all that much different -- only a lot more wasteful. Obama seems to have learned from his predecessor that Americans don't like the idea of shivering through the winter and carpooling to work with strangers, who for all one knows could be road-raged psychotics.

Obama has a better plan. End the nation's dependence on fossil fuels by doubling the use of wind and solar (from current .5% to 1% of our needs), subsidize electric cars (to a grand total of 1 million, or .8% of the 125 million cars on the road), and brew up a few gallons of biofuel from wood chips. At least you can't say the President is hitting the snooze button, not with all these brilliant plans in the works. He's wide awake, just delusional.

The Secret Society of Open Government

Liberals at War: Lesson 4

Muddle the mission.  Nothing says "strength" like a clear view of the mission and a firm hand in command.  God forbid that we project strength in war.

Liberals at War: Lesson 3

Show what fools you really are by actually committing the mistakes of which you so shrilly accused your predecessor.

Didn't we hear shrieking for years about the "exit strategy" and the "mission definition?"

So how's Libya going?

Obama Locked Out of Oval Office

Metaphor for his presidency.

Rush Limbaugh had some fine words:

Liberals at War: Lesson 2

Try to hide behind word-plays that you think might fool people into believing you're not really launching hundreds of cruise missiles, or failing that, try to convince people it's simply "logistical support".  Yeah, those cruise missiles are full of SPAM for the ground troops, no doubt.

Kinetic military action, indeed.

No Wonder it's Pronounced "Weener"

So, New York doesn't need ObamaCare because it already has hospitals and employs doctors and nurses 'n' stuff. Wow, living in a civilized place like New York must be sooo coool.  Down here in Texas, we're waiting for the government to give us indoor plumbing.

Liberals at War: Lesson 1

Be (or pretend to be) ignorant of history. Especially if it represents a success by your much-reviled predecessor.

Healthcare is sooooo 2009

Looks like even the band has decided to abandon ship.

Socialism

Some may argue that Obama's not a socialist.  Ok, well, I contend that if it walks like a duck...
See what socialists are saying about Obama.  See what Obama is saying about socialists.
Quack quack.

Can You Hear Us?

Probably not. So we need to keep up the pressure.

The Color Red According to Pravda

Emerging Corruption makes a case, the most compelling of which comes via Pravda, as a quote from the linked article illustrates (bold emphasis is mine):

For those still in denial, consider an article by Stanislav Mishin that appeared in Pravda, the Russian newspaper that was formerly one of the main organs of the Soviet Union. ³It must be said that like the breaking of a great dam, the American descent into Marxism is happening with breathtaking speed, against the backdrop of a passive, hapless sheep´, much of which he attributed to ³the election of Barack Obama.´

When Pravda reports on your "descent into Marxism", you know you have a big, big problem.

A More Philosophical Perspective

Very well put.

Read the whole article, of which this is a small sample:

At any rate, I am steadfastly opposed to the notion that holders of the offices of government are supposed to function as leaders. Furthermore, to a man and woman, all who cherish the liberties that our forefathers bequeathed to us should be no less opposed to this view.

First of all, if our politicians are our leaders, then the electorate consists of followers.  But those who consider their individuality a blessing are the followers of no government.  It is antagonism toward individuality, the belief that it is a burden to be lifted, that impels its enemies to seek out leaders.  And what better leaders are there than those who have at their disposal a monopoly on power?

Second, if politicians are leaders and citizens followers, then the country itself is a movement.  A movement exists, not for its own sake, but for the sake of realizing goals that are believed to be independent of it: Liberty, Equality, Social Justice, and the like.  It is the goals or ideals of a movement that distinguish it as the movement that it is.  This is the first characteristic of any movement to be noted.

Resigning on the Job

Most observant students of human behavior saw this (or a horrific meltdown, or maybe both) coming even before the '08 election.  An obvious narcissist, profoundly superficial and with no practical experience (at all, much less executive experience), for POTUS?  What could go wrong?

A president whose complete disregard for substantive political discourse in addressing the nation's fiscal woes is derelict. Whether he is lazy, irresponsible or just overwhelmed, the signs point to a man bringing disrepute to the office for which self-imposed exile is his only way out.  A president with enough time and energy to fill out a NCAA Final Four basketball tourney bracket but can't find the time to attend to border security or assemble a meaningful budget incorporating the recommendations of his own deficit commission, is derelict.

Don't Let the Door Hit You on the Way Out

See ya, Donnie. Don't hurry back.  Of course, there's this:

It remains critical that Berwick actually leaves. Having twisted the rules to get him in, Obama is quite capable of doing the same once again. There's an old Chicago trick, pioneered by Richard J. Daley, in which Da Mare would hire unqualified pals, let them go just before the civil service exam requirements came up, then rehire them. That's how things were done in the Duchy of Chicago, a land Obama is at least as familiar with as he is Indonesia.

Ignorance

This  is an excellent article.  One of many highlights:

Ever since he took office Obama has looked stunned that nothing works the way he expects. Maybe that's why he's playing so much golf, to get away from all the bad news. Baffled. Why don't the Muslims and Israelis do what I tell them? Why doesn't the economy rebound from my "stimulus"? He doesn't get it. The more things get out of control, the more confused he feels. It wasn't supposed to be this way.

Wind Power Massively More Deadly than Nuclear

The cost in human life per megawatt hour of wind power generated over the last 30 or 40 years is vastly higher than the the same measure for nuclear.  So why are we talking about halting development of nuclear power?  Shouldn't we be talking about halting wind power until its safety record can be improved?

Well What Do you Know, TARP a Boondoggle

Global Warming RIP

"The global warming corpse is not quite dead, but dead enough for now. The question is what new fraud will the United Nations and environmental organizations perpetrate? It took an economist to figure this out?

http://www.freedompolitics.com/articles/green-2488-jobs-energy.html "It is well understood, among economists, that governments do not 'create' jobs," Green writes. "The willingness of entrepreneurs to invest their capital, paired with consumer demand for goods and services, does that. All the government can do is subsidize some industries while jacking up costs for others. In the green case, it is destroying jobs in the conventional energy sector -- and most likely in other industrial sectors -- through taxes and subsidies to new green companies that will use taxpayer dollars to undercut the competition. The subsidized jobs 'created' are, by definition, less efficient uses of capital than market-created jobs."

I'd say that was really rather obvious, myself...

President of China? | The Weekly Standard

President of China? | The Weekly Standard: "“Mr. Obama has told people that it would be so much easier to be the president of China. As one official put it, ‘No one is scrutinizing Hu Jintao’s words in Tahrir Square.’”"

He has my vote to be President of China. He'll wreck them faster than he's wrecking us.

Levin goes nuclear on Republican leadership | The Right Scoop

Levin goes nuclear on Republican leadership | The Right Scoop: "Levin says that Republicans are doing way too little in the way of spending and blames the leadership for being more interested in power than the future of the country."

Wham!!

Better hurry up with that "green energy"

***NEW TODAY*** EIA Short Term Energy Outlook: Gulf of Mexico Production Down, U.S. Oil Imports Up - House Committee on Natural Resources: "“Unemployment is only going to get worse as this Administration’s policies continue to increase the cost of gasoline, which trickles down to every sector of our economy. We need to use our resources to produce American made energy, create good jobs, and insulate ourselves from uncontrollable energy prices spikes.”"

Unfortunately it has become routine to expect that Obama produces the opposite of what he promises in terms of reliance on foreign energy. However, his promise to spike energy prices is holding...

The Post-racial Canard

Obama: The Racial Presidency — Emerging Corruption: "Far from being race-neutral, the Obama administration has been race-driven, ushering in an era of unprecedented prejudiced rhetoric and actions. The most recent example of this being Attorney General Eric Holder, a man assigned with representing the people, defending the Justice Department’s weak efforts in the voting rights case against members of the New Black Panther Party, claiming that the pursuit of justice would be “a great disservice to people who put their lives on the line… for my people.”"

About as post-racial as he is non-partisan.

Ben Affleck Tells Congress 5 Million Have Died in Congo Since 1998 But Says U.N. Has Not Failed in its Mission There | CNSnews.com

Ben Affleck Tells Congress 5 Million Have Died in Congo Since 1998 But Says U.N. Has Not Failed in its Mission There | CNSnews.com: "In making the case for increased U.S. involvement in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Academy award-winning actor Ben Affleck told Congress that 5 million people had died in that country since 1998 from civil conflict. After the hearing, Affleck told CNSNews.com that the United Nations had not failed in its mission in the Congo."

So, a couple of questions:
  1. Why is this clown testifying to Congress in the first place? What qualifies him as any kind of expert on anything? He's little more than a circus clown from what I can see.

  2. How is 5 million dead a success? See point 1.

Advancing the Cause

All quiet on the Mad Town front? « Hot Air: "Walker turned Wisconsin into a banana republic and exercised a nuclear option by — holding a vote? One that the GOP had held off for three weeks to get Democrats to return to Madison? Geez, no wonder they want Card Check. Who knew holding binding votes in a legislature was nuclear, and the hallmark of banana republics?"

The shrill union rhetoric moves the ball down the field quite a distance -- in the wrong direction for the unions, and in the right direction for the Union.

"Our experiments on the formation of strata are fundamental because they demonstrate, ‘inter alia’, that in a continuous turbulent current many superposed strata form simultaneously and progress together in the direction of the current; they do not form successively as believed originally. These experiments explain a mechanism of strata building, showing empirically the rapid formation of strata."

Think about that for a minute. I'm not sure this rises to the level of "disproving evolution" as some may think, but it seems to put a dent in one of the assumptions behind evaluating the age of fossils.

It's All a Fraud

Obamacare Taxes: Deep Impact | The Foundry: Conservative Policy News.: "As the Heritage Foundation’s Senior Tax Policy Analyst Curtis Dubay points out, the impact of Obamacare on taxpayers will spread wide and cut deep. Overall, there are 18 new taxes slipped into this bill, raising $503 billion over a ten-year period to cement Democrats’ dubious claim of budget neutrality."

The strategic reserve we’re not willing to tap « Hot Air: "That last price shock launched the “Drill Here, Drill Now” movement that succeeded in breaking down a few barriers to an expansion in American production before the economic collapse cut prices in half again. We need to restart that movement and break down the rest of the barriers and stop being held hostage to decades-long promises that renewable energy is just around the corner, and put in place a realistic plan to use American resources to buffer the US economy from the vagaries of kleptocracies and dictatorships on the other side of the globe."

Reid: Budget cuts mean an end to cowboy poetry, or something « Hot Air

Oh, dear. I'm hoping this is a sign that we're near rock bottom. It's just inconceivable that it could get any more stupid than this.

So, Are They Stupid or do They Think We are Stupid?

WaPo gives Obama three Pinocchios for “halfway” claim « Hot Air: "Actually, Glenn Kessler had already given Barack Obama two Pinocchios for claiming that he had met the Republicans “halfway” on budget cuts. Incensed, the administration dumped data and charts on Kessler’s desk and asked him to reconsider his assessment. Kessler gamely agreed to do so and indeed changed his mind … to score Obama’s claim as an even bigger deception than he had first thought:"

Probably a little of both. Ultimately, they're too stupid to recognize that we're not as stupid as they think we are.

Deja Vu

New Obama EO establishes indefinite detention at Gitmo « Hot Air: "When the Bush administration made that argument, his political opponents accused him of “shredding the Constitution,” among other acts, and demanded habeas corpus rights through the federal courts. Barack Obama was one of those critics, arguing in June 2007 that not only did Gitmo need to be closed but that “we’re going to restore habeas corpus. … We’re going to lead by example – by not just word but by deed. That’s our vision for the future.” "

Any question now that this administration is a collection of clowns?

Opinion: Anybody Know What the Obama Doctrine Is?: "President Barack Obama dithers over Libya with the predictable result that things have become even worse. Boehner shames Obama into engagement? « Hot Air: "Wow. So merely 120 days after the midterm elections handed Boehner the majority in Congress, 152 days after the FY2011 budget was due, and 56 days since the 112th Session of the House of Representatives began, Obama found some time in his schedule to talk to the Speaker of the House about the budget.
