'No One Should Live Below A Certain Income Level,' U.N. Secretary-General Says | CNSnews.com: "The United Nations, which marked a 'World Day of Social Justice' on Sunday, Feb. 20, is calling for a 'new era' in which all the people of the world have access to basic services and 'decently' paying jobs."

A tragic study of the naivete of the left. Let's see, where to begin? Ok, let's take the "jobs" thing.

Whence come economically sustainable jobs? Last time I checked, they came from an economy that produced something. A productive economy is founded on (enforceable) property rights. An economy that is dominated by government and produces nothing of value is not sustainable, and does not produce worthwhile jobs. Likewise, a society that arbitrarily confiscates property from those who produce, or a society in which a person can enforce their property rights only with violence is not going to prosper.

So, as sad as it is, people who cannot produce sufficient value to even feed themselves (why don't they find some land somewhere and grow something, or find somebody who is growing something and help them?) are probably lost causes. There must be a down-side to the inability to produce. Rather than giving them "jobs" (leftist code for "welfare"), let's teach them and encourage them to produce something.
